Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for key projects worth more than ₹11,200 crore in Maharashtra via video conference on Sunday, September 29, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The projects were originally scheduled to be launched during the Prime Minister’s visit to Pune, but the event was postponed due to heavy rainfall in the region.
Modi will inaugurate the Pune Metro section from the District Court to Swargate, marking the completion of Phase 1 of the Pune Metro Rail Project. The 1.8 km underground section has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹1,810 crore.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj extension of Pune Metro Phase 1. The 5.46 km southern extension, which will be entirely underground, will feature three stations—Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj—and is projected to cost ₹2,955 crore.
Modi will also inaugurate the Bidkin Industrial Area, a significant project spanning 7,855 acres under the Centre’s National Industrial Corridor Development Programme. Located along the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, the initiative aims to establish an economic hub in the Marathwada region, with an overall approved project cost exceeding ₹6,400 crore, to be completed in three phases.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate Solapur Airport, a development expected to improve regional connectivity significantly. The upgraded terminal will accommodate approximately 4.1 lakh passengers annually, enhancing the city’s accessibility for tourists, business travellers, and investors.
In a tribute to social reformer Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule, Modi will lay the foundation stone for a memorial at her first girls’ school at Bhidewada.
